Creativity is like freedom: once you taste it, you cannot live without it. It is a transformative force, enhancing self-esteem and self-empowerment. (Rogers, N)
We were all born dancers, singers, painters and actors….. We do not need to call ourselves an artist to have the right to reclaim what once came so naturally before we were told ‘we weren’t good enough’ ‘we don’t do it correctly’.
Preschool children who have healthy sense of selves, without an inner critic, dance, sing, paint and play their day away spontaneously and joyfully. It is time for us to come home to ourselves and embrace all we can be, in order to shine our own unique light in a world that badly needs shining on.
The clinical application of expressive arts therapy acknowledges the ancient wisdom of all cultures and societies who have used the arts to express and heal themselves. Our own personal willingness to have the courage to heal for our own wellbeing has a ripple effect. Healthy individuals create healthy families. Healthy families actively participate in healthy communities and these communities have the resources for hope and the energy for action to heal our beautiful planet.
